Self-Compassion

Writer: Laurel HoneyfordLaurel Honeyford

"Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others." - Christopher Germer

A major proponent of the work that I do is listening to people's hurt and heartache, and responding with empathy and compassion. I love to provide a safe place for people to be their authentic selves, free of judgement or condemnation. To allow people to sit in their emotions, but to not get stuck in them.

I tell others that it's okay to rest. Its okay to take time off. Its okay to spend an entire day in your pajamas. Its okay to have boundaries. Its okay to say no. Its okay to not be okay...

And yet, when I feel like I am not running at optimal capacity, I can find it very challenging to provide myself the same level of encouragement and understanding.

Are you able to have compassion for yourself?

A quick way to answer that question is to notice what your inner voice is saying and ask yourself, would you say those same things to a loved one?

Learning to have self-compassion is difficult, but crucial for success. No one can be their best self when under constant criticism.

Be kind to yourself today!

If you are struggling with practicing self-compassion, I would love to help. Reach out at any time, or keep checking out my blog as I write more on this topic.
